Nieuwe tropische storm

World Weather Summary Accu/WeatherMatrix

Updated: May 31, 2005 11:31 a.m.

Late Tuesday morning, EDT, an un-named tropical storm is plying
the waters of the western North Pacific Ocean. With highest sustained
winds near 40 mph, the storm is centered about 200 miles south of
Agana, Guam; it is moving west-northwestward at 7 mph. The cyclone is
forecast to intensify markedly during the next 2-3 days on a
west-northwestward and northwestward path that would take it over the
open waters of the Philippine Sea; it will probably become a typhoon
by Wednesday night or Thursday.

A storm brought locally very heavy rain to eastern Japan Monday
and Monday night, local time. On O Shima, an island about 70 miles to
the south-southwest of Tokyo, rainfall was 7.9 inches within 24 hours.

Monday, parts of western Canada were unusually warm, even hot.
With respect to normal, it was warmest in northern Alberta. Here,
highs included 89 degrees at Garden River and 87 degrees in High
Level. These marks were 20-25 degrees above average for late May.

High heat burned southeastern Mexico Monday near and a short
distance inland from the southern Gulf of Mexico. Coatzacoalcos soared
to 105 degrees while Villahermosa registered a 104-degree high. Late
May in both places has an average daily high in the upper 80s.

May is coming to a end on a rainy note in parts of the African
nation of Benin. The seaside city of Cotonou, for example, collected
5.0 inches of rain from Sunday to Tuesday. Of this, 4.5 inches poured
down in only twelve hours on Monday.

Thailand's Phuket Island was doused by 5.0 inches of rain within
24 hours as of late Tuesday, local time.

Updated: June 4, 2005 12:11 a.m.

As of Saturday afternoon, Typhoon Nesat (04W) was located over the
open Philippine Sea, near 15.9 degrees north and 130.6 degrees east or
about 725 miles south-southeast of Okinawa. It has sustained winds of
120 mph and is moving northwestward at 8 mph. Nesat is expected to
turn more northward Saturday as is begins interacting with a trough to
the north. Eventually it is expected to turn northeastward. It should
maintain intensity through the next 24 hours or so, then begin
weakening beyond that as it encounters increasing shear. The projected
path will keep Nesat over the open northwest Pacific through the
weekend and into early next week staying east of Okinawa and west of
Iwo Jima. Toward the middle of next week, it is expected to head just
southeast of Tokyo and any deviation in it's path to the west would
take it closer to Southeast Japan. By then though, it should be in a
weakening phase.

As of early Sunday, Typhoon Nesat (04W) remains located over the
open Philippine Sea, near 18.1 degrees north and 130.9 degrees east
or about 630 miles south-southeast of Okinawa. It has sustained winds
around 110 mph and is moving north-northeast at 10 mph. Nesat should
remain close to it's present strength into Monday and start to trek
on a more northeasterly direction. Beyond Monday, Nesat will begin
to weaken as the storm heads over the northwest Pacific. By
Wednesday, Nesat will have weakened into a tropical storm and
should remain out over open waters. However, any deviation in it's
path westward may bring Nesat much closer to eastern Japan. Nesat
will be well on it's way out into the Pacific on Thursday.

Typhoon Nesat is a strong storm plying the waters of the northern
Philippine Sea. Late Monday morning, EDT, Nesat holds top sustained
winds of 130 mph about an eye which is 490 miles west-southwest of Iwo
Jima, one of Japan's Volcano Islands; it is moving northeastward at 10
mph. Nesat is forecast to remain a powerful and dangerous storm as it
heads more-or-less towards the north-northeast during the next 2 days;
thereafter, meaningful weakening and an accelerated motion towards the
northeast are anticipated. On this projected path, Nesat would pass
between the Volcano Islands and "mainland" Japan Wednesday night and
early Thursday, although it is too soon to rule out a direct hit in
either area.

during the next 2-3 days. On this projected path, Nesat's core would
pass between the Volcano Islands and "mainland" Japan later Thursday
and Thursday night, although some of the cyclone's strong winds and
heavy rains could lash southeastern Honshu Island, including Tokyo.

Tropische Depressie nummer 1

Is een feit, op de North Atlantic. De verwachting is dat het binnenkort een heuse Tropische Storm gaat worden. Vliegtuigen gaan binnenkort een verkenning uitvoeren, wie weet gaan we er daarna meer over horen.

Feit is; Het seizoen is begonnen. Cuba heeft zijn eerste StormWatch al weer uitstaan.

Wordt vervolgt.

Tropische storm Arlene

Bericht door Scruffy » 12 jun 2005 06:11

PENSACOLA, Fla. - Tropical Storm Arlene weakened as it blew ashore Saturday on the Gulf Coast, but still packed enough punch that it brought sheets of rain, 20-foot waves and heavy wind to the same area that was devastated by Hurricane Ivan nine months ago.

The first named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season had threatened to strengthen to a hurricane but had sustained wind of only about 60 mph when it made landfall at around 3 p.m., just west of Pensacola.
